It’s hard to know whether or not to be fascinated or horrified by this latest attempt at AI Drawing.
Developed by a NPO (a Dutch public broadcaster), the tool endeavours to turn your drawing into a recreation of Lara Rense, one of their presenters. And well, it only kind of works.
This is not the first program of its kind out there either. Earlier this year Christopher Hesse developed an Image-to-Image demonstration using the Google’s open-source TensorFlow project.
While I’m not 100% sure what this type of technology may be used for down the road, it certainly is fun to play around with in the present.
It’s easy to imagine similar technology being integrated into elements of different design processes: photo editing, architecture, interior design, for example. Possibly even to enhance technology like age generation tools, or sketch artistry.
I urge you to give it a try, but be warned, some of the creatures that you create may haunt your dreams tonight!
Try it yourself: Pix2Pix
(Update Jan 2019, this program is no longer available to try)
